MLB will rule on Nyjer Morgan punishment Friday

Major League Baseball is expected to deliver its ruling on punishment for the Washington Nationals' Nyjer Morgan(notes) on Friday, two days after Morgan was involved in a bench-clearing brawl in a game against the Florida Marlins.
Citing sources, ESPN.com reports MLB officials are reviewing "a range of nfl jerseys
incidents" involving Morgan since Aug. 21, when the outfielder threw a ball into the stands and hit a fan in the head at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Ballpark.
Morgan was suspended seven games for the ball-throwing incident, but he appealed the suspension and has been allowed to play in the meantime. He was also fined an undisclosed amount.
Wednesday, Morgan was among players ejected in the Nats-Marlins game after the melee. That followed a Tuesday game in which Morgan ran full speed into Marlins catcher Brett Hayes(notes), leaving him with a shoulder injury.
Marlins pitcher Chris Volstad(notes) hit Morgan with a pitch in the fourth inning Wednesday, and Morgan proceeded to steal two bases with the Nats up 16-4. Two innings later, Volstad buzzed a pitch behind Morgan's head and the battle was on.

On Thursday, the Marlins announced Hayes is out indefinitely with a left shoulder separation.
Last week, Morgan ran over a St. Louis Cardinals catcher who had stepped away from the plate to avoid a collision.
In the Philadelphia incident, Morgan said he had an "ongoing dialogue," according to the Post, with one particular fan that escalated with Morgan throwing a ball into the stands, striking a different fan in the head.
A similar incident occurred last season when reliever Fernando Rodney(notes), then with the Detroit Tigers, hurled a baseball into the press box in Tampa Bay. No one was injured in Rodney's case. Rodney was suspended three games suspension. The ban was reduced tonfl jersey authentic

A league official told the Post that MLB disciplinarians will handle Wednesday's brawl involving Morgan and the Philadelphia matters as separate incidents.
